Washington requires employers to register for a business license.
When you apply for a business license and check the boxes to indicate you have or plan to hire employees, Business Licensing Service notifies Employment Services Division. Employment Services Division will register your business and send you a letter letting you know that your business is now registered.
Additionally, Business Licensing Service will notify Washington Department of Labor & Industries (If you plan to hire a worker under the age of 18, apply for a Minor Work Permit as part of your business license application) within 2 weeks you'll receive a letter from you new workers' comp account manager ang a packet.
All told, upon registration you should have a WA ESD number, a WA UBI Number, a WA Workers Compensation Account ID, a WA SUI rate, a WA EAF rate and WA workers compensation classes and rate details.
